About

A National Collective of Indigenous Students

Universities across Australia are some of the most emphatic when articulating stated goals of delivering educational outcomes to Indigenous students. However, there is a fundamental dissonance between the marketing narrative of universities and the actual experience of Indigenous students attempting to achieve tertiary educational outcomes. Along with the dysfunctional and careless efforts of the National Union of Students to adequately represent Indigenous student issues, and the exceptionally difficult task of students in campus environments to form autonomous collectives, Indigenous student perspectives are woefully under-represented.

The goal of this collective shall be to:
a. Establish an autonomous collective of Indigenous students nationally.
b. Seek to have Indigenous issues and perspectives represented and determined only by Indigenous students at every level.
c. Bring attention to the issues that Indigenous students experience in a tertiary education environment.
d. Seek that all matters affecting Indigenous students are addressed in a manner which produces positive outcomes for Indigenous students.
e. Create a mutually supportive and inclusive network based on community, respect and solidarity that operates autonomously of any political party/faction and/or institution.

This collective shall be established with the intention of operating solely for Indigenous students and Indigenous student issues, and shall not align itself with any individual and/or group that operates contrary to this intention.
